The benefits of stopping smoking this Stoptober

If you’ve quit smoking this Stoptober then good for you and keep it up!  If you’re still thinking about quitting or have fallen off the bandwagon then it’s not too late to quit this month!

Why quit?

Quitting smoking isn’t just hugely beneficial for your health but also great news for your friends and your family who are forced to breath in your second-hand smoke every time that you smoke around them.  Every year in the UK second-hand smoke kills about 11,000 people, so if you’re struggling to find the willpower to quit for yourself do it for them instead.

Smoking is a painfully unattractive habit, not only does it make you smell terrible, it will also yellow and stain your skin and teeth over time, can cause you to get more spots, and make your skin leathery and wrinkly before its time.

If that all sounds pretty dire then just wait until you hear what smoking does to your insides!  Smoking damages some of the most important systems in your body including the cardiovascular system and your immune system.  Cigarettes are full of toxic compounds like carbon monoxide which reduces blood circulation in your body, and arsenic which can cause cancer as well as damaging your heart.  The list of harmful chemicals in cigarettes is as long as my arm, when you quit smoking your chances of having cancer, heart attacks, heart disease, stroke, cataracts and many other diseases reduces dramatically.  You’ll also find that you’ll be able to breathe a lot easier, your blood pressure will reduce, and you will feel overall healthier and more resilient against illnesses.
